General Facts about Thailand
Thailand (or Prathet Thai in Thai language) is a country in South-East Asia, that has had a very developed and expanding infrastructure and economy the last decades. About 95% of it's population are Buddhists (Theravada Buddhism) and the second largest religion is Islam followed by Christianity. A majority of the muslims are living in the Southern provinces. (Narathiwat, Yala, Pattani, Songkhla and Satun) The Thais are a very proud people who love their culture, their religion and their monarchy. The country was the only one, in the region, that was not colonized by the Europeans.

Short Facts about the Country
Thailand has an area of 514,000 km� which makes it slightly smaller than France and slightly larger than Sweden in size. The country is located in South-East Asia and the neighboring countries are: Myanmar (Burma), Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. South Thailand is also surrounded by The Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. It is a monarchy and the most common religion is Buddhism.

The Climate in Thailand
The climate is tropical, warm and often humid. The temperature is normally about 30 Degrees Celsius in the daytime and about 25�C in the nighttime. However in the Northern parts of the country, the temperature can go down to 10�C (!) or in exceptional cases 0�C in the nighttime, during the chilly season. In Southern Thailand, temperatures below 20 degrees are rather rare, even in the nighttime.

Nudity is something that Thais normally only show in privacy, so if you are a woman, our advice is to not sunbath topless, if you can not do it a little discreetly. Do also were a shirt (also applies to men) if you are entering a shop or restaurant etc.
